Recycling and composting: Airlie recycles plastic, aluminum, steel, glass, newspapers, office paper, cardboard, wood pallets, grease, lamps, batteries and ballasts. Kitchen scraps are collected for composting at our Local Food Project garden.
Purchasing: Airlie buys office products made from post-consumer waste, as well as non-toxic and biodegradable soaps and liquids. Airlie prioritizes purchases of “Energy Star” appliances and hybrid and electric vehicles.
Linen Reuse: Airlie conserves water and cleaning supplies by giving guests the opportunity to use towels and bed linens for the duration of their stay.
Lighting: Airlie is in the process of changing all of the lighting on the property to compact fluorescent and LED bulbs.
Organic Food Grown On-Campus: The Local Food Project at Airlie grows fresh vegetables, herbs, berries, and flowers for the Airlie Center kitchen.
Grounds Maintenance: Airlie’s National Wildlife Habitat-certified grounds include buffer zones around lakes and ponds to provide undisturbed habitat for wildlife.
Employee Education: Airlie provides ongoing training to employees regarding the Center’s routinely updated environmental practices. A staff-led “Green Team” conducts a thorough audit of the property every quarter to ensure the implementation and maintenance of sustainable initiatives.
